Recently got BTE Oticon Safari’s. My right one never gives me feedback, unless I cover it with my hand. However the left one will give feedback even if i touch it slightly to adjust the volume or anything, and sometimes will give feedback just sitting in my ear. What could be some causes and ways to stop this from happening?

It is also a Power version of the Safari incase that matters at all

Since World War II, people have known that speech intelligibility can be improved by increasing the consonant amplitude compared to that of the vowel. Why isn’t this capability incorporated into hearing aids, turning them into understanding aids?

    Hearing Aid?

I have moderate hearing loss in the speach range (I don’t remember the db loss the doctor said because I didn’t realize that was an important thing to know). My doctor wants me to choose between a in the canal hearing aid (Destiny or Oticon Syncro) or a behind the ear (Oticon Delta). They are all about the same price for a pair…so what I am wondering is if anyone has hearing aid experiance and which they prefer (in the canal or behind the ear).

I have a moderate hearing loss in my right ear and a mild one in my left. I have had a hearing impairment my whole life (I’m 18), do to a genetic defect. When I was younger I had these dreadful, heavy, uncofterable BTE hearing aids that I refused to wear. Instead I opted to go around asking people to repeat themselves and turning up the volume on things. My finacé and I were talking about it, and he finally convinced me to go back to the audiologist. She tested my hearing, and recommended the Oticon Delta hearing aid. They were pricey, but she assured us (finacé and I) that it would greatly improve my life, and so we ordered them. They are kind of funky, they are white and have orange flowers on the casing (I think the patter was called In Bloom?) and have a translucent tube. They are small. I was just wondering, if you wear hearing aids, how has it improved your life? Are you glad you bought them? How do you think people will react if they notice a young person wearing hearing aids?
I’m a but worried that they will think I am ‘disabled’ or they will treat me differently. Or that they will think I did it to myself with an IPOD or something.
No, I didn’t mean it as an insult. I know that my hearing and learning problems are disabilities. What I meant by that was have them treat my like I am inferior to them and mentally incapable. See, when I was in school, because I the label learning disabled/ADHD and hearing impaired if I asked question, teachers would always well, and over anonciate every word, speaking very slowly asking ‘Do you understand?’ and smiling and nodding. They always spoke to me like that and treated me like I was stupid, asking me every two minutes, literally ‘Is everything alright? You heard the lesson? And you understand it? Are you sure you understand? Do you need some extra help?’ ‘ and it drove me crazy, when all I really needed was to sit at the front of the class where and not have the teacher turn around while she was talking, and have a computer for written exams (my spelling and handwriting are dreadful). I just don’t want to be treated like I am not able to do thing myself. That’s all.

I have been without an eardrum since 5 years old, and because of that my middle bone in my right ear disappeared as well. I am looking for the best hearing aids. Which hearing aids can replace the cochlear implant procedure and to help me balance the hearing in both ears. My brain is not used to hear from my right side and I know this will take some time and adjustment.

          Hi guys,

I just been told by my NHS audiologist that I need hearing aids (didn’t come as a surprise really, I suspected that that was gonna be the case)

My audiologist said that I’ll be getting a Siemans hearing aid that goes behind the ear with a small wire that goes down into the ear. She was very nice and reassuring, but their’s a lot of questions that I didn’t think of until afterwoulds, I was hoping some of you folks could help answer, as I’m not at the hospital to get the thing until October 8th, (the wait’s gonna be hell)

Anyway, some of the things I wanna know (sorry for how ‘begginnerish’ these will probably sound to a lot of you)

What actual model will I be getting, Siemens website was less than helpful.

What is the ‘user experience’ like with a hearing aid, I’ve never worn one (although I do have a friend with a BAHA) I.E. how do you attatch them to your ears? What controls and different settings and modes and functions will it have, how long will the batteries last, is it okay to wear it in the rain etc.

Most importantly tho, what will I actually HEAR?

Also I’m a musician, apart from Pete Townshend (from The Who) and Beethoven am I the only mutton musician? I can’t be surely?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies

          Danny
